Paula Sánchez Marín
PI-ECOTOXICOLOGY
Paula Sánchez-Marín completed her PhD in the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2010, working on metal bioavailability in seawater, and after three postdoc positions: INRS-ETE (Québec, Canada), University of Aveiro (Portugal) and University of Vigo (Spain), she joined the Marine Pollution Group of the Spanish Oceanographic Institution in 2018. Her research interests include the speciation and bioavailability of metals in seawater, as well as the development of new tools for the evaluation of marine pollution, including chemical and biological monitoring.

PI-BIOGEOCHEMISTRY
Juan Santos-Echeandía completed his PhD in the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2009, working on the biogeochemical cycle of trace metals in seawater, from the coast to open-ocean waters. After three postdocs positions: LEMAR-UBO (Brest, France), IPIMAR (Lisbon, Portugal) and Marine Research Institute (IIM-CSIC) (Vigo, Spain), he joined the Marine Pollution Group of the Spanish Oceanographic Institute in 2016. His research interests include the biogeochemistry and chemical oceanography of trace elements, including their organic speciation.

Maria Sol Hernández Conesa
XXXXX
Graduated in Marine Sciences from the University of Alicante. Subsequently, I completed the master’s degree in Oceanography at the University of Vigo and my Master’s Thesis at the Vigo Oceanographic Center (IEO-CSIC) in 2023. Currently my interests are related to phytoplankton and the bioavailability of metals.

Claude Fortin
ECOTOXICOLOGY
Claude Fortin is a professor at the Eau Terre Environnement Centre of the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (a graduate university part of the University of Quebec network). Claude does research in Biogeochemistry, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Analytical Chemistry mostly linked to metal contamination of surface waters and their bioavailability to freshwater microorganisms. Current projects deal with “data-poor” metals such as those of the platinum group elements and rare earth metals.

Geraldine Sarthou
BIOGEOQUEMISTRY
BIOGEOCHEMISTRY Research Director. Senior Researcher. CNRS. LEMAR (Marine Environmental Sciences Laboratory. My research focuses on the biogeochemical cycle of trace metals in the ocean. I quantify their sources, their sinks, their internal cycle, as well as their interactions with the food web.
With my team, we adopt a dual approach: studies in the laboratory and in a natural environment, closely linked to biogeochemical modeling.

José A. Álvarez-Salgado
BIOGEOQUEMISTRY
Research Professor at the Marine Research Institute (IIM-CSIC) and head of the Marine Geochemistry Laboratory. My research career has been mainly focused on marine dissolved organic matter (DOM), which is made up of myriads of compounds with half-lives ranging from minutes to tens of thousands of years. DOM plays a key role in global biogeochemical cycles and is sensitive to the warming, acidification, deoxygenation and fertilization that the oceans have been experiencing, especially since the mid-twentieth century. More recently, I have become interested too in the relationship between shellfish culture and the environment. I carry out a transdisciplinary research foresting synergy and internationalisation.
