Work plan

The work plan to develop this project includes the following tasks.

Samples will be collected monthly during one year along the salinity gradient in the Ría de Vigo under different hydrologic (wet and dry) and oceanographic (upwelling and non-upwelling) periods.

Progress10%
  • Task 1.1. Metal analysis in particulate fraction.
  • Task 1.2. Analysis of dissolved metals.
  • Task 1.3. Use Pb isotopic signatures in order to evaluate the degree of dispersion of Pb from the ceramic factory onto the Ría de Vigo using both dissolved and particulate fractions of the water column.
  • Task 1.4. Nutrients, DOC and POC. In collaboration with X. A. Álvarez-Salgado (IIM-CSIC).
  • Task 1.5. Chlorophyll a determination.

  • Task 2.1. CDOM quality, absorbance and fluorescence measurements. In collaboration with M. Nieto-Cid and X. A. Álvarez-Salgado (IEO-A Coruña/IIM-CSIC).
  • Task 2.2. Analysis of organic substances by electrochemical methods.
  • Task 2.3. Analysis of Cu speciation by ASV and CSV and comparison of techniques.
  • Task 2.4. Analysis of Fe speciation by cathodic stripping voltammetry.
  • Task 2.5. Analysis of Pb speciation by by anodic stripping voltammetry
  • Task 2.6. Analysis of Co speciation by cathodic stripping voltammetry.
  • Task 3.1. Culture of phytoplankton (Prorocentrum micans) in low and high Fe media.
  • Task 3.2. Internalisation experiments of Cu with low and high-Fe acclimated cultures.
  • Task 3.3. Determination of Cu uptake mechanism in P. micans at low and high Cu concentrations.
  • Task 3.4. Evaluation of the mechanisms by which DOM influences Cu uptake in P. micans.
  • Task 4.1. Study Pb complexation by two DOM types in seawater.
  • Task 4.2. Metal internalisation experiments with phytoplankton in the presence of DOM.
  • Task 4.3. Study Pb internalisation by phytoplankton in natural samples.
